The Modern Relationship

What exactly makes a relationship modern? Where I live, there seems to be no such thing. In Salt Lake, regardless of religion or what side of town you grew up in, there's only one kind of relationship... The "We-Think-We're-In-Love-And-Getting-Married-At-21 (or in some cases even younger) Relationship."

In this kind of environment, what are two ex's-slash-best friends who don't believe in anything, let alone a healthy relationship, supposed to do? We decided the answer was something we would call "modern."

Let's cut for a little background. We met over four years ago. We dated, thought we'd fallen in love only to be reintroduced to reality, break up and become the best of inseparable friends. These days, we really do love each other, only it's in a way we can't find a label for.

Though, as comfortable as we are with an inexplainable relationship, the question of what we are exactly, has never stopped staring us in the face. How do we label what we feel is the most normal relationship either of us has ever had? We came to the conclusion that we'd have to make up our own idea. We decided on "modern."
To date who we want, when we want, all the while, never living without the other. We also factored in a Plan B: to get married at 40, just in case no one else finds us worthy.

It seems like a good enough explanation for us. I guess only time will tell how right about it all we were, which begs the question: which side has the right idea? Should we go on believing that love comes wrapped in a bow made of wedding bell embossed ribbon that we're supposed to rip open the second someone not entirely repulsive looks twice at us? Or do we take the cynical route and claim we don't believe in love, only back up plans so as not to die alone?

For two best friends from the west side who have watched enough friends get married, have kids, and hate their lives, the cynical route sounds like just the road trip we're hoped for all along.

Some Cool Quotes I Found On StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon has quickly become my new obsession. I'm in love with it. It sparks so much inspiration, and gives me so many ideas and new things to try, and of course, cool ass pictures to look at.

Today, StumbleUpon decided I needed some funny, interesting, and even a few heart warming quotes for some reason. So I decided I'd post a couple of my favorites for the day.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
 - Albert Einstein

"When you have to make a hard decision flip a coin. Why? Because when that coin is in the air, you suddenly know what you're hoping for."

"Monsters are real. Ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win."
 - Stephen King

"When I saw you I fell in love and you smiled because you knew."
 - Shakespeare

"When angry, count to four; when very angry, swear."
 - Mark Twain

and for some silly ones that made me laugh:

"Condoms prevent minivans."

"I wish you would stop being useless and start being pizza."

These made my day, hope they make someone elses too. :)

Resolution 2012

Ok so, I've never been a fan of new years resolutions, mostly because if change was really important to you, you wouldn't need a holiday to kick your ass in to gear.

However, for the sake of being clever and silly, I actually came up with one that seems appropriate and that I'm capable of keeping.

Continue to kick ass. Simple. Solid. Awesome.

I made a lot of changes and accomplishments in 2011 that made life better and set me up for even more opportunities. I graduated from college, I started going to the gym [goin five days a week thank you very much :)], and I did whatever made me happy regardless of what anyone said.

So I'm gonna keep doing me. I'm going to do new and exciting things, I'm going to find a solid job that I know I deserve, I'm going to keep getting healthier day by day, and I'm going to keep chasing those awesome dreams and living my life for me.

I suggest we all throw the resolutions out the window and simple strive to make ourselves better every single day.
